Winter Classic 2014 - Where are they now?
With the 2015 Winter Classic just hours away, I though that it would be good to look at where those that featured in the 2014 classic are now. As the closing credits on the "Road to the Winter Classic" came up these captions should have appeared.

The Cost of Hockey 2014-15
Every year the BBC do their annual "Price of Football" Survey, this an opportunity for clubs to provide information about much tickets and other services at the football club. Alarmingly, the BBC have reported this year that ticket price increases "increase the cost of living". Football has long been the game of the working man and the "nation's game" but with the rising ticket prices, sky-rocketing salaries and lucrative sponsorship deals, is that still the case?
What I want to do is gather information from the UK Hockey community so we can see what alternatives UK sports fans have for their hard earned cash. I call on all EIHL, SNL and EPL teams to contribute.
In order to make a fair comparison with the football world, we need to gather the following:

In order to make a fair comparison with the football world, we need to gather the following:
- Single game ticket adult
- Single game ticket concession (juvenile, OAP, student etc)
- Cheapest Season Ticket Adult
- Dearest Season Ticket Adult
- Cost of cup of tea/coffee

Flyers Midweek Update 7/10/2014
Another
week, another 2 win weekend. After a run of 4 losses in their first 4 games,
the Flyers have burst in to life with 5 wins in their last 6 and a point in
each of these games. Fife’s two wins over the Edinburgh Capitals this weekend
have afforded the club their best ever Challenge Cup record with 2 games left
to spare.
A scrappy affair on the Saturday remarkably yielded a 5-1 victory with Kevin Regan standing tall. As my good friend, Andrew Frame (@aframe88) points out Regan has been exceptional in recent weeks:
Another player who has been remarkable is #21 Bobby Chaumont, a point in each of his last 9 games is good for 14 points and third in EIHL scoring.
After Saturday's game Todd Dutiaume spoke with Ali McLaren:
The comments of more to come were echoed by associate coach Danny Stewart after Sunday's victory in Edinburgh:
The prevailing theme of the weekend continued with Allan Crow's (@fifefreepressed) assesment of the game:
I've been a Fife fan for a long time if we need to "endure" 4 point weekends, for all we'll moan - we'll take them!
And Finally...
Monday's big announcement was made and this weeks #bawbagoftheweek was our very own #50 Matt Nickerson:
I'm sure I speak for big Matt when I say that I'm a little disappointed that it took this long to get the recognition this season!
***Update***
It's almost like they waited for me to post this blog, Fife Flyers tweeted the highlights from Saturday's game:
Great mix of scorers which bodes well for the rest of the season!

A #flyersfact from @aframe88: @kevinregan32 has faced 115 shots in four games and has been beaten only 3 times. A save percentage of 97.4%!!

Flyers Weekend Update 3/10/2014
While most people's working week is ending, for Todd Dutiaume and his Flyers team it's just beginning. A double header with their old foes, the Edinburgh Capitals follows what was statistically their best weekend in EIHL history and their are some pretty lofty expectations created from these results. Dutiaume discussed the expectations this week on Behind the Glass, if you haven't heard this weeks show you can listen here.
I've seen a lot of comments over the last few days on the rivalry between the Capitals and the Flyers and how it is finally back, I've included a few of the comments below:
As a Flyers fan of almost 20 years I have to say that I've never seen the rivalry diminish, yes there will be times when one team does slightly better than the other. I don't think it's that simple to say that a rivalry doesn't exist because one team wins more of the games. Competition between the two teams may will improve but don't confuse that with rivalry. As an example, let's look at the Hogmanay games between the two clubs: in 2011 a 5-4 shootout victory for the Flyers, 2012 a 3-2 overtime win for the Flyers and 2013 a close fought 4-3 win for the Capitals each time in front of a crowd of approximately 1500 fans. So, 1500 fans are showing up on Scotland's biggest party day to watch a minority sport and we are claiming that this rivalry only reignited a month ago?
If that's the case I really cannot wait until this weekends games!
The big news around the league is the announcement that teams can now name 3 alternate captains in addition to the captain:
My question would be immediately, is this necessary? The argument is that an extra alternate would mean that there is always someone able to speak to the officials. I personally feel that, as long as they are asking a question and not abusing the official, any player can speak to the officials on a decision. I understand that there is often a need for a captain to speak with the referee and linesman and so this is one of those things that in theory would work. I'm just not convinced that in practice it will work, look at the Flyers as an example: Kyle Haines is the captain, Jordan Fulton and Bobby Chaumont are the alternates, they are all on the same line, an extra alternate on a different forward or defensive line is hardly going to remedy that, is it?
And finally...
Great cause on Friday 17th really hope all those attending take part and contribute!
