Flyers Weekend Update 29/09/2014

10 goals for, 1 against, 6 points.....

Do we really need to say anymore? NO!

At the same time though I think we maybe should, a goal differential of 9 is the best in the Flyers EIHL history, while Flyers have scored more on other occasions, this passed weekend is statistically the most successful weekend in their EIHL history. A shutout on Saturday saw Kevin Regan gain his second shutout in blue, white and gold joining Bryan Pitton as the franchise leader for shutouts on 2.This weekend Regan stopped a total of 49 shots to give the Flyers a massive 6-point weekend which puts the Flyers in 2nd place in the Challenge Cup group having played 4 games and gaining 7 points. It is also the first time that the Flyers have beaten the Giants in the Challenge Cup which is a massive achievement.

So let's start with Saturday night, a 4-0 win against rivals the Braehead Clan and the returning arrow-slinger Derek Roehl. A shutout against the team that blanked the Flyers on 2 occasions last season and a solid win to reiterate that the FIA is a difficult place for any team to visit. After the game Ross Cunningham of Flyers TV spoke with the returning Derek Roehl and Fife man of the match, Ned Lukacevic:

Roehl clearly disappointed with the result but he will always be welcome at the Fife Ice Arena.

Todd Dutiaume was clearly delighted with his teams performance:

While pantomime villain, Chris Frank, wasn't involved tonight - his first game back after suspension will be against the Flyers - new guy Zack Fitzgerald went toe-to-toe with Matt Nickerson:

Nicker may have gotten the better of him tonight but with 9 more league and cup games to follow this is not the first time that two will square off and it won't always be as "easy" as that.

If the FIA is a difficult place to play for away teams then playing at the Odyssey should be a round on the Krypton Factor, a 6-1 win in the Titanic Quarter for the Flyers is a famous victory and will not be forgotten quickly. Two goals from Gunn and Auger and singles from Fulton and Haines gave the Flyers one of their biggest away wins yet! The 5th goal sparked a reaction from the home fans with Kingdom FM's Ali McLaren noting:

I wonder how often the Giants have received such hostility from their fans? It may have been back in 2008:

A huge win that shows the parity in the league is at an all-time high, with Hull's victory on Saturday against Nottingham we finally have an open league on our hands!

Belfast Giants Live posted the highlights to last night game:

And quick off the mark with a match report was Allan Crow of the Fife Free Press:

Craig Anderson of Slapshot Scotland also had a summary of the weekend's games with reaction from Flyers' associate coach Danny Stewart:

A great weekend for the Flyers that needs to be capped now with another 4 point weekend against Edinburgh, with Reber and Horne still to return these last two games have shown us that we have real team this year!
