Flyers Weekend Update 15/09/2014

A close game on Saturday saw the Flyers yield their first point of the season, however that first victory still remains elusive. A battling performance on Saturday with an equaliser in the last 10 seconds of regulation meant that Flyers would take last season's playoff champions all the way in a tilt that ended 5-4 after penalty to shots to the Steelmen. It was Flyers who opened the scoring, with Josh Scoon gathering the plaudits for this goal:

Scoon was clearly delighted with this one and fully deserves the praise heading his way. It was curious that when faced with a bench minor later in the game it was Jamie Wilson that served it rather than Josh, is this a temporary change to the pecking order or something more permanent? One thing that is for sure, our British forwards know that ice time is at a premium and they have to earn every shift.

The first of two dramatic equalisers was scored by Ned Lukacevic, this marked the first point of the season from the Montenegro-born Canadian and with those soft hands let's hope that it very much is the first of many:

Post-match, Todd Dutiaume and goalscorer Josh Scoon spoke with Flyers TV:

The game was marred an incident in the first period, with Mark Thomas boarding Danny Stewart. Thomas did not receive a call on the play at the time but he did get a 5 minute fighting major with Tommy Muir receiving a 2+10 instigator penalty after the Stewart hit. This hit would lead to supplementary discipline and what I can only assume will be the first of many videos from the department of player safety:

I know that they have caught flack - quite rightly - from Elite fans regarding the ban for Riley Emmerson, but I know that one thing that caused ire amongst all fans last year was the inconsistency and lack of transparency in the decisions made.

Let's get one thing clear the Emmerson ban is laughable - I hope that the ban get's overturned - but if by having game tape then league can offer fans a clear insight in to the rationale for bans, this can surely only be a good thing?
